"The Drinking Club with A Running Problem!"

What is Hashing?

Hashing Is Easy

Hashing is a lively blend of social jogging, hiking and partying, often playfully described as a "drinking club with a running problem." In the world of hashing, "Hashing" refers to the activity of following a trail marked by a "Hare." A trail typically spans four to six miles through various terrains like jungle, water, city streets, and farmland.

Participants, known as Hashers, follow the trail marked with chalk, flour, or other indicators. The course includes checks about every half kilometer, allowing people of all fitness levels to enjoy the run or walk at their own pace.

Hashing isn’t a race but a fun, communal activity where everyone—from seasoned runners to casual walkers—can join in. It’s open to anyone 18 and older (20+ if you plan to drink) and welcomes people from all backgrounds and fitness levels. Events occur every Saturday at 1300, rain or shine, starting from a different location each week, and typically involve 10-20 participants.

You might hear references to "The Hash House Harriers" (or simply "the Hash") and specific local groups, such as the Okinawa Hash, which represent individual kennels or chapters. Please note that our Facebook events may not accurately reflect attendance, so don't be concerned if you see only a few RSVPs—many seasoned Hashers come regularly without pre-registering.

If you're interested in joining, just show up at a trail or contact the organizers listed on the website. Whether you're looking for exercise, camaraderie, or just a good time, hashing offers something for everyone!

What will you gain when you join the hash?
