Chalk Talk is a term used in the hashing community to refer to the set of symbols, marks, or signs that are used by hares (the individuals who lay the trail for a hash run) to guide the runners. These marks are typically drawn with chalk (hence the name), and they indicate the correct path, detours, hazards, or other important directions that hashers need to follow during the run.

Because each hashing group or kennel might have their own specific set of symbols or conventions, Chalk Talk can vary from one group to another. For example, one symbol could mean "turn here" in one kennel, but might indicate something completely different in another. It’s essentially the "language" of the trail, understood by regular hashers but potentially confusing for newcomers if they’re not familiar with the markings specific to that group.

In short, Chalk Talk is the way hares communicate the trail’s path, and learning the symbols is an essential part of being a savvy hasher!
